CANINE INFLUENZA VIRUS ALERT
A serious canine influenza virus causing substantial respiratory problems was first detected in 2004 in Florida. We write now because sporadic cases have been reported in our area and we think it's time for dog owners to consider vaccination. For the moment we do not think all dogs necessarily need to be vaccinated, but are recommending  consideration of vaccinations in higher risk individuals-especially those spending time in high risk environments such as kennels, boarding facilities, dog parks and dog shows. The vaccine does not necessarily prevent the disease, but does lessen symptoms. This protection requires 2 injections at 2-4 week intervals. For dogs we've seen in the last 12 months, this can be done by our veterinary assistants without an office visit.

Please call ahead with questions and/or to arrange a convenient time to come in. Click here for the facts and more information on Canine Influenza.
